In Canada, Breeder seed is produced by CSGA-Recognized Plant Breeders. Produced in small plots, Breeder seed provides the original parent seed for all other classes of pedigreed seed and is the highest class of seed certified by CSGA. Breeder seed production must follow a set of guidelines with stringent standards. CSGA-Recognized Associate Plant Breeders, supervised by CSGA-Recognized Plant Breeders, are responsible for assuring Breeder seed is grown and processed to the highest standards.
EARNING CRITERIA
To obtain the CSGA-Recognized Associate Plant Breeder designation, an Associate Plant Breeder must:
i. Make application to CSGA for plant breeder recognition
ii. Meet minimum education and experience requirements
iii. Pass a peer-review process by CSGA’s Plant Breeders’ Committee, which reviews the application and recommends accreditation approvals to the CSGA Board of Directors
